2002
Volkswagen Jetta GLS
I absolutely loved driving this car. Looks great, handles great, nice pep
(even with a four banger), lots of nice options. Six months later, things
started going wrong very very wrong. I noticed a "clunk" when going over
bumps, turning, accelorating, and decelorating. The dash and front
passenger pillar started rattling, the arm rest broke, the sunroof
sometimes decides to stop closing and re-opens, the cd player sometimes
decides not to work, the door switch (tells the car when it's open) is
broke, drivers window sounds awful when going up or down, engine sounds
pretty rough, and it seems to burn oil. It's now a year later since I
noticed the first problem. My car has been in the shop atleast seven times
for my mystery "clunk". The last time it was in, the dealership had my car
for almost 3 weeks, and it's still not fixed. Not to mention atleast 2
trips for each other problem (once for the diagnosis, then return trip
because the parts had to be ordered which took up to 2 weeks). I have
dealt with 2 local dealerships for the "clunk" and other problems. One
dealership's service department was completely incompetent (Cambridge VW,
and I was even told off by their sales manager), the other seemed fine but
were still unable to fix my car. I have called VW's corporate headquarters
atlease 14 times, and sent them one letter. They were even less help then
the dealerships. All they want to do is keep trying to fix the car. Right
now I am in the middle of dealing with the Canadian Motor Vehicle
Arbitration Plan, which will arbitrate my complaints with VW and hopefully
they will force them to buy back my Jetta. For the love of God, NEVER BUY
A JETTA. You will be very sorry if you do. I will never buy another VW
product again. Not only is my vehicle absolute garbage, their mechanics
don't seem to be able to fix them, and their customer service is the
worst! If you think this is an issolated case, your wrong. My friend has a
2003 Jetta 1.8t which has been in the shop 10 times in the past 10 months
for various (and sometimes re-accuring problems) as well as 2 recalls for
the same thing. I will say it again, the Jetta is GARBAGE, stay very far
away from them for your own mental health unless you like spending time in
the dealerships waiting room.
