1975 Volkswagen Beetle
I owned this car for 3 yrs, and it nickel, and dimed me from day one! The day i got it, the ignition cylinder caught on fire, on my way to the highway! An hour towing on flatbed trailer cost me $100 Canadian...another $400 for the exhaust (alone) the safety work cost extra $50 in parts, and about 3 hrs labour...one day the Driver side shock absorber collapsed just as I drove it in to replace the fronts shocks. The Relay for the STOCK FUEL INJECTED engine blew... causing me to stall, and get pushed by my bumper by stranger, my rear bumper collapsed...when it rained a hole in front deck lid would leak water all over my legs, it was a small hole, I plugged it with a self-tapping screw. Massive oil leaks solved by moving up to thicker oil, from 10w30 to 10w40 finally to 20w50 and new valve gasket covers, seals...The transmission was out of line with engine, when in Reverse, the shifter popped out of the gate as the trans was still engaged...My radio was for decoration only....it kept the gas fumes out of cabin area...The speedo was half broken...  I could read my speed, and would not log any mileage...my brake light always stayed on...A piece of black electrical tape fixed it...Oil gauge never worked..  both front seats were bolted to body with 6" long screws fastened to 2x4's which were splitting.. My signal lights failed...(kept blowing fuses) I fixed it by hooking up a circuit breaker to the fuse panel, with alligator clips, and plastic tie securing it to my steering column. I finally sold it as is.
